Scope Planning for assigment 3. (Should be posted ealier)

Assignment 3: Care for Nature, Care from Nature.

Project Objectives:

The primary objective of making this poster is to raise the awareness of public on the importance and advantage of taking care of nature and stop deforestation.
Other than that, it is to relate the idea of all the previous assignments with the current assignment. In assignment 1, I drew a symbol with a tree on top of an Earth. The idea is about the importance of tree and to show the situation where tree absent. While in assignment 2, my idea is to show the scene where tree present. The idea is completely difference with assignment 1. This is because I want to show the obvious difference between before and after deforestation. To link the ideas with assignment 3, I will produce a poster with tree as a highly essential element in nature. The idea is to draw the tree and environment as beauty as possible and carry a message to stop deforestation, love nature.

Approach:

• I will use those basic tools in illustrator, such as pen tool, live paint bucket, shapes, brush and so on to draw the background.
• Then I will use variety of effects, such as outer glow, feather, blur, and shadow to enhance the drawing.
• For the text, I use type tool.
• To reduce the size of the file and make my working effective, I raster some patches.
• Also, I use gradient, opacity, mask and live trace to make the layers of difference objects look difference.
• Finally, I will update my blog frequently.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. August 20, 2008 – I updated my blog with the latest research done together with the idea and statement for this assignment.
2. August 21-23, 2008 – I searched for some posters and useful pictures as reference and started to sketch my poster.
3. August 24, 2008 – I uploaded the references and sketches to my blog.
4. August 25, 2008 – I started to draw the poster as planned and at the same time write down the process of making, which was later uploaded to my blog.
5. August 26, 2008 – I was on the half way of finishing my poster, so I referred to my tutor for some comments on how to improve it.
6. August 27, 2008 – I will continue doing the poster. (Until it is done)
7. August 30, 2008 – Make final retouching and improvement.
8. Before September 9, 2008 – The poster must be done and I will rearrange and upload all the documents in my blog.
   

Comment:

• When drawing the poster, I am very worry of encountering the “Unknown error” and I did encounter it but soon I find out the causes. When I input the text into my poster, the problem occurs unless I remove the text from the poster. But still I am not sure of the main causes.
• August 26, my friend teaches me how to raster an image with many patches. It helps a lot especially when I want to edit the poster.
• At the same day, I meets Madam Ling. She gives lots of comments on my poster and it is indeed useful to me. I learn about clip mask as well.
• The difficulties I face in doing the poster are when choosing the most suitable colour to suite the theme. Other than that, I am overwhelmed by the "unknown error" (I know how to avoid it now).
  

Final retouch to my poster.

After having some comments from tutors and friends as well, I have decided to make some retouches to my poster. I appreciate those comments and it is very useful.

So, the final work will be post soon.
(Also, I will rearrange the documents in my blog.)

Summary of tools used in assignment 3.
(Updated September 5, 2008)














For the tools section, I create a diagram for it.













I had descripe most of them in previous assignment, except the blend tool and type tool.
Blend tool: It is used when we want to duplicate patches in between 2 patches in a straight line.
Type tool: A basic tool to insert texts, we can later edit them.

The Process

1. First of all, I create a general background for the poster with regtangle tool plus radial gradient.












2. Then, in the 2nd layer, I draw the green land with pen tool. The land is next duplicated and reshaped. As shown below:












4. OK, now I have the very general outline of my poster. Then next thing to do will be inserting some text. As for me, I will insert my statement: "CARE FOR NATURE, CARE FROM NATURE." (in another layer) using type tool.


























5. After editing the text, including the colors, size and style, I start with the focus point of my poster, that is to copy the tree from assigment 2 and make the "wings".

6. In another smaller window, I trace the wing from my refrences and paste it at my poster in another new layer.














7. Next, I edit the wing and add effects on it (glow and feather). Also, I reduce its opacity to make it more lovely. After that, it is duplicated and reflected for the other part. Then adjust the transpirancy and add in some gradient.













8. Following that will be pasting my "Tree" from assigment 2 into this poster. It is the back up file when I was doing assigment 2...Luckly it is still usable, but it looks a bit difference.














9. After that, I decorate the land with trees and some flower. The small tree is traced from my sketches. I then duplicate it and edit it.













10. Next, I insert text at the bottom part of the poster using type tool.













Below is how I make the text look like as it is glowing. The effect I use is outer glow for the text and feather for the colum.













11. Then, I paste my symbol from assigment 1 at the bottom-right of the poster. Below is the symbol together with its title.













12. So the poster should looks like this at this stage. Looks simple but it actually needs a lot of works.




















12. Finally, I make a overall "retouch" . The final product will be posted in the next post.

The Statement and idea.

Based on the research, my statement will be:
CARE FOR NATURE, CARE FROM NATURE.

Description:
When we take good cares of our environment, there is no doubt that we can enjoy our live more in a healthy environment. That's the care from nature when we protect it from destruction.

Idea:
So, my idea for this assigment will be to design a poster with landscape. Based on the research done, most deforestation are man-made. When forest are destroyed, man will be the one who suffer in return. So, in order to gain protection from the nature, we must first protect it! Imagine if deforestation continues without limit... and when it comes to the last tree on the earth. that tree will be the only hope for us to survive - Tree of Life. As a conclution, the idea is to create awareness on the important of taking care of nature and stop deforestation.

As requested, I must do further research on what, why and how global warming is affecting our environment, and come up with a statement and brief description on the area of choice in the context of global warming. So below will be the research :

The effects of deforestation on environment.

A. Effects on Biodiversity:

• The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) defines biodiversity as "the wealth of life on Earth, the millions of plants, animals, and micro-organisms, the gens they contain and the intricate ecosystems they build into the living enviroment."
• Causes extinction of wild life.
• Leads to diminished gene pool.
• As the planetary gene pool continues to diminish, there are less oppertunities for advancements in many fields, especially medicine.
• Soil erosion occurs, the forest becomes less capable of surviving big storms, and the whole forest begins to degrade and eventually die.
• Destroys the source of life of the forest dwellers and animals that live in the forest.

C. Why deforestation occurs?

There are people that see the forest as sources of money. These people exploit of the forest. They cut down trees for rare, exotic timber that sell at high prices. Their primary concern is profits. In the short term, they can make huge profits selling exotic timber. If this is continued for some time, eventually, there will be no more trees to cut down. People who make their living cutting and selling trees will go bankrupt.

That show the values of forest, not in term of money but in the important.

Final Assigment for First Semester.

The last assigment for CG in this semester. The task is to draw a poster related to your previous assigments. I should start doing it after hand-up assigment 2.

Well I am currently thinking of the ideas.(Will put my ideation here when I get it)

OK, after going through some refrences and researches (on the next post), I get an idea already. To makes things easier, I will post the idea togather with the statement and explaination.

An unknown error has occur

Bad news... I save my picture as .ai file, it takes long time to save. And when I want to load it in the next reboot of my computer, an unknow error occur!













My picture cannot be loaded! (TmT) So, I tried to open another picture which I saved as back up. But it is no use... So, I search for the solution on the net and I found out that it is most properly the corrupted prefernces file or my laptop run out of virtual memory (which is impossible).













Even I reinstall the application, nothing changed... So, the final solution for me to summit the .ai file is by open the .jpeg file which I saved for web and save it again as .ai file.
(Below is all the pictures used for the 2nd assigment.) The one I high-light is the new .ai file.













After loading it, the layer I made was gone and remain as 1 layer only.... well I have to summit this .ai if no solution is to be found... If anyone has any solution please post your suggestions.

The Final Out-come for Assigment 2.

Description:
Phew, this sure takes a lot of hard work, especially to draw the out line of the sketches. So, I hope no one will copy this idea. Warning: (Any copying or similar illustration may result in the students getting an automatic "0" mark. NO PLAGERISM) ...®

Summary for tools used:

1. Pen tool: To draw line in any direction and to create any irregular shape.
   
2. Live paint bucket: To fill in particular colour/gradient in a selected area.
   
3. Selection tool: To select a patch for multi pupose such as resize, copy, move and grouping and much more.
   
4. Direct selection tool: To select a small edge or dot in a patch for editing the shape.
   
5. Brushes: To draw line and to create shape.
   
6. Gradient tool: To set the colour differences in a selected patch.
   

What I had learned:

1. To use layer and patches (including grouping) to arrange the picture.
2. To use pen tool in a better way instead of just joining dot to dot. For example to make curve and to join 2 difference patches.
